I create people driven plays for people with an edge, because there is no room for a lack of passion. Your personal journey is absurd and hilarious and tragic—so is mine. We need to dare ourselves to show our audience these things so they can see their own reflections in us. We’re all on a different path, but we all want the same things: love, success, happiness, acceptance. We can offer that if we collaborate from beginning to end. For every heartbreaking and challenging contribution we accept or make, we need to encourage our collaborators to do the same, because every one of those offerings is an opportunity for the work and for our selves to gain greater dimension. Only then will our audience know that it is not alone. There is no room to not take a risk, because, there is no time to waste.
I began in Los Angeles in television development and production, where I held positions at Paramount, Viacom and Granada Entertainment and learned the nuts and bolts of production, how to develop an idea and how to work with a writer. I furthered these skills during my studies at The Actors Studio in New York.
My New York stage credits include original works by writers such as Caridad Svich, Vanessa Shealy, Mark Finley, Carla Ching, Aurin Squire, Susan Merson, Phil Schmiedl, Leslie Bramm, Matt Casarino, Joe Godfrey, Rosary O’Neill and Vanda, playing at venues such as Primary Stages, The Abingdon, HERE, Queens Theatre in the Park, FringeNYC, The Players, TADA and at Westbeth. I have also directed extant works by Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams, Nicky Silver, Sam Shepard and Eugene Ionesco. My regional credits include plays by A.R. Gurney, Lee Blessing, Ken Ludwig, Eric Bentley, Jane Chambers and Doug Wright.
I assistant-directed for Tina Howe at the 24 Hour Plays on Broadway, and I directed the award-winning comedy Larry Gets the Call by Matt Casarino, which went on to be featured at DaDaFest International in Liverpool, where I also directed other original works, including Screw You Jimmy Choo!, my production of which originally premiered at the Gasworks Arts Park in Melbourne, Australia, then at the Kennedy Center.
I have evaluated scripts for the Atlantic Theater Company, New York Theatre Workshop and FringeNYC and continue to do so for colleagues. I hold both a BA in Dramatic Art and Film Studies from UC Santa Barbara and an MFA in Directing from the Actors Studio Drama School.
I am a member of The Actors Studio Playwright/Director Workshop, an Associate Member of the SDC, and I am a resident director at Emerging Artists Theatre, where I served a two-year term as the Directors’ Company Manager.
